Tattoo Trends of 2025

We are half way through 2025 already! I’m not sure where the time has gone…

So what are the trends for this year so far?

Butterfly tattoos

Butterflies are timeless and they are still holding their own in 2025. I have tattooed a fair share of butterflies this year already. They look beautiful in black and grey, colour and simple finalise work.

Perfect for symbolism and memorial tattoos, or if you’re just wanting something pretty.

Marsh Fritillary Butterfly

This one in particular was a memorial for my clients grandmother. Accompanied with some healed flowers.

Blackwork Geometric accents

We are slowly working through a patchwork sleeve for this client, with some little geometric accents. Butterflies are such a versatile design, carrying meaning and look pretty with anything!

Dragons

Little silhouette trio of dragons have been super popular this year, they provide a lot of movement in the tattoo whilst still being delicate and discreet. The designs can create flow on the body.

Collar bone placement with little colour accents

Creating flow with the different movements of dragons. This is also a really flattering placement along the collar bone. Perfect for those strapless outfits!

Stomach Placement Illustrative style

These were such a cute idea, with a slightly different take on the style of the dragons. Delicate but bold. Your artists should be able to create your vision and have something completely personal to you!

Little bit more detailed dragons

The beauty of dragons is that you can scale up the size, or keep them quite small with minimal detail.

Greek Mythology

I have had a lot of greek mythology this year, which has been a really nice challenge and change of pace.

Greek Mythology has a lot of symbolism, and speaks to a lot of clients. The imagery produced allows for a lot of creativity and personalisation, but also the subject matter is so diverse, there’s something for everyone.

The designs translate to a lot of different styles, which is perfect if you are looking for a particular looking tattoo.

See some examples below of my work.

Hermes

Hermes with the caduceus and an Iris flower. This design worked in well with the clients other greek tattoos that we have completed over the years. Element of geometric shapes & flora/fauna.

Hercules

Hercules with the Namean lion on his head.

This client knew he wanted strong imagery and loved the style of Greek tattoos, so allowed me to piece together some different ideas for his sleeve, starting with Hercules.

Matching Tattoos

This one always carries the most meaning and creativity. Families, friends and partners choosing something that represents them.

Mostly birth flowers, as it represents you in imagery. However I have had some different ones this year.

One being a book club, all of the members had little finalise books with their own little quirks added to them.

Take a look at some examples!

Fineline stack of books

One of the fineline books from the book club group that had matching tattoos!

This ones quirk included little accents of colour bursting out from the pages.

Birds with Birth Flowers

A mother, and 2 daughters got matching tattoos of 3 great tits stood on a branch containing their birth flowers.

Tattoos are completely customisable to you! Explain what you would like to your artist, they can make your idea come to life.
